Courtney & Marc’s Chic Chicago Wedding

Courtney & Marc were married on May 21 in the gorgeous Saint James Chapel! This is their story…
CMC-5I never would have imagined that the goofy boy I started dating senior year in high school would be the man I would call my husband and partner in life. We started off as high school speech team partners. CMC-44Marc says he asked the speech coach if we could be partners even though, at the time, I barely knew him. I am so glad he took a chance on me as this would be the start of the rest of our lives together. I loved every moment of being his speech partner and eventually high school sweetheart. Even at the age of 17, I felt how strongly he cared for me and how passionate he was about the things he loves. CMC-63Senior year of high school was a whirlwind but it soon became time for us both to go to college. Marc went to University of Illinois and I went to Purdue University in Indiana. We were about two hours away from each other with no car, but that didn’t stop Marc. He found any way he could to come visit me sometimes waiting through the night in the Chicago or Indianapolis train stations just to see me for one day. He did this as often as he could. Once we did have cars at school, whenever I needed anything, he was there for me. I am not sure at the time I really appreciated enough all that he did for me but looking back I can see how pure and genuinely he loved and cared for me. CMC-68We continued dating through college and when it came time to graduate, we were both headed to different parts of the country. Marc landed a tech job in Silicon Valley out in California and I was off to Tyler, Texas for my first job as a Cardiovascular ICU nurse. CMC-103

Both caused us great stress but I know that having each other over the phone and making little getaway trips in that time made all the difference. The journey to finally being together was not easy, but I know it made us stronger.

After a year and a half in Texas, I moved to California and have lived here for three years now. I feel Marc and I’s love continue to grow each day. While Marc’s passion, hard work, and commitment for things he loves and cares about is one of my favorite qualities in him, I also love his sense of humor and how he makes me laugh every single day. We balance each other out quite well as I am often the organized, Type A nurse and he is the spontaneous, go-with-the-flow techie. When I get anxious or worried, he is there with a good laugh and reassurance that everything is going to be all right.

Our love for music together has also played an instrumental role in our relationship from the very beginning with Marc being a violinist and my love for singing. One of my favorite things to do with Marc is sing at the top of our lungs.  Everything just feels right in the world and all the stress melts away when we are singing together. I cannot wait to share this love for music with our children. Another amazing quality Marc has is patience and seeing the best in people, I know this is where I struggle and he helps me see its importance each day.

Engagement: We were supposed to go to Lake Tahoe for the weekend to celebrate my birthday but there was a lot of rain (weird for California). The streets were flooding so we cancelled our trip. Marc could not wait so he used our dog, Oreo (a black lab) to distract me while he got out. I had decorated the apartment for Christmas and all the lights were on and the house was full of Christmas spirit. Oreo brought a sock out of the bedroom to the living room that Marc gave him. I picked it up and put it back in the laundry hamper. On my way back Marc was down on one knee with Oreo right next to him. The Christmas lights were sparkling around him and I broke into tears.

Wedding day: We planned the wedding in Chicago (where our family and friends mostly all are) from California. I am also in graduate school so this was a fun challenge. The wedding day started out getting ready with my seven bridesmaids at the Trump International Hotel in Chicago (picked because it is just stunning!).

My dress was Vera Wang. The ceremony was in the catholic church, Saint James Chapel, in the middle of the city. This church has beautiful stained glass and is just stunning. The reception was at Galleria Marchetti which is a little escape from the urban feel while still being in the city. It is a large white tent with a garden in the back. The style of the reception was meant to be a romantic garden feel- sort of tuscany-inspired since we are both Italian! One of my favorite memories from that day is seeing Marc at the end of the aisle waiting for me. I burst into tears all over again.

When I met Marc I was a high school girl with a crush on a goofy boy and there I stood now a woman ready to commit my life to him. Also at the reception my two youngest sisters came out and did a hover board dance to “Jump On it”. I had no idea they were going to do that. I also surprised Marc by singing to him, “At Last”. The night was so fun and we took Patron shots with all our guests, haha!
